The online poker room, Poker Stars was pleased to announce that its European arm, PokerStars.eu, has been awarded an operating license by Malta, bringing another reputable licensing jurisdiction into its fold. The .eu domain is set to launch in the very near future, and will service European countries where the demand for quality online poker is high.
It was not too long ago that Poker Stars was awarded a license by the Belgian authorities, after that country’s new gaming laws kicked in at the beginning of the year. As such, Poker Stars has licenses from Denmark, France, Estonia and Italy, as well as its two latest acquisitions, Malta and Belgium.
The Head of Corporate Communications at the online poker room, Eric Hollreiser explained that obtaining on online gaming license is a long and arduous task, requiring significant resources and a willingness to allow licensing bodies to scrutinize the company’s practices and procedures. The need to examine the applicant’s credentials in important areas such as integrity, security and attitudes to responsible gaming was stressed by Hollreiser.
The Poker Stars executive added that the poker room was happy to submit to this process when the end result was of clear benefit to players and the industry, as well as the company. He said that, as far as online poker players were concerned, another new license was just another good reason to feel comfortable playing at PokerStars.eu.
Hollreiser said that he was not aware of any other online poker room in the industry that had been licensed by so many jurisdictions.
