The UK sports betting and online gambling giant, William Hill, has taken its first important steps into the fast growing world of social media by hiring a British based PR agency to help with the expansion.

The London based Lexis was picked by William Hill to help take the group onto a platform which it has not previously operated on, now that the group is undergoing a massive international expansion process.

William Hill was recently granted an operation license in the newly regulated Nevada gambling industry, and wants to make sure that it enjoys maximum exposure as it leaves the UK shores and starts to operate in the United States.

According to the PR manager of William Hill, Kate Miller, social media has become more and more important with sports fans, as is evident in the Olympic Games in London.  She said that Twitter, for example is a recognized comms stream and William Hill is working hard to make the best of the content it is producing.  According the Miller, the internet and social media such as Facebook and Twitter allow William Hill the opportunity to promote to other markets as it expands internationally, and also to tailor its content to suit the requirements of various marketplaces.

Many online gambling operators have taken to use social media as a way to expand their brand exposure.

William Hill has worked with Lexis before, in collaboration with the Will Hill Greyhound Derby which kicked off early this year.  The new project will initially run for three months and will be overseen by top executives at Lexis.
