For the first time in its history, the social network site, Facebook, has opened its doors to real money gaming, allowing the UK based casino games provider, Gamesys to develop a play-for-cash gambling application. The new Bingo and Slots Friendzy application will initially offer players real money bingo, but will soon extend to slots games as well. Players will be able to put themselves in line to win big prizes through progressive jackpots and exciting bingo and slots gaming off the new Facebook gambling application.
According to a spokeswoman for Facebook, the game has been developed entirely by Gamesys and is in no way a joint venture between the network site and the London based company. However, the spokeswoman said that Facebook had been impressed enough by the tough regulations used by the UK Gambling Commission to govern the local industry to allow Gamesys to develop a real money application. She said that real money gaming is a popular and well regulated activity in the United Kingdom, and Facebook was thus allowing a partner to offer its games to adult users on the Facebook platform in a “safe and controlled” manner.
Gamesys is considered one of the largest UK gambling companies and runs top notch gaming sites such a Jackpot Joy, which boats four million registered users, as well as Sun Bingo and Heart Bingo.
Users of the application will need to be of adult age (over 18 years old) and be based in the United Kingdom. They will also need to prove their location and age through Facebook’s tough age-gating and geo-locating technology.
