The Cheltenham Gold Cup, considered the greatest steeplechaser in the world, is a Grade 1 National Hunt horse race which takes place each March as part of the Cheltenham Festival.  It invites horses aged five years and over to participate and has been part of the British racing scene since 1924.

The Group Managing Director of the Jockey Club Racecourses, Paul Fisher, said that the deal was an important one for Cheltenham and British Racing as people from all walks of life get excited ahead of the Gold Cup. The Director of Sponsorship for Cheltenham, Peter McNeile said that he was naturally delighted to have secured Betfred’s sponsorship for a further 3 years. He said that the sports betting group’s support of the race and the enthusiasm which they put in to promoting the race last season made Cheltenham keen to extend the partnership.

The Gold Cup, which takes place on the third day of the Cheltenham Festival, is scheduled for the middle of March, 2013.
